Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are perfect for experimenting craft techniques. There's my favourite ATC collage technique, watercolour technique, acrylic paint technique, stamping technique, and more! There are no boundaries, no limits!
I say let's start a ATC Trading Community, where our fellow craft-ers share and trade their ATC? (we are still working out details on how we can facilitate this, stay tuned!) More photos to inspire you for ATC projects!

From Wikipedia: Artist Trading Cards (ATC) or otherwise known as Art Cards, Editions and Originals (ACEO) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards, small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens and markers), wet media (paints), paper media (collage, paper cuts) or even metals or cloth The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold. Read Part 2 here Are you ready for more? Here's another sneak preview into Prima's Summer 2011 Releases! Londonerry Collection - "a line filled with images of playtimes in the past, antique prints and old engravings in a time-worn pastel palette" In short, it is vintage with a tinge of childhood playfulness! Mulberry Flowers in fabulous fabric prints, Beaded Leaves Inspirations for Londonerry Collection Emeline Seet is part of Prima/ Melissa Frances/ Tattered Angels/ Glitz Design/ Webster Pages Design Team from... you guessed it, Singapore! Our sunny little island! How great is that! Her scrapbook layouts have also won various competitions and were featured in many scrapbook magazines and books! Next, North Country Collection
North Country Collection, "woodland images of the forest in winter, coated in snow... trees standing bare... deer congregating amongst the natural beauty..." We call this "one step closer to Christmas"! the collection gives the "Christmassy" vibes Cut the craft technicalities... What exactly is a "Configuration Box"? "Configuration Box" is a term first coined in Tim Holtz Ideology Collection (please correct me if i'm wrong), which gives really great flexibility on however you want to arrange and showcase them. They come in various sizes (see below) and make awesome scrapbooking supplies. Click here for a YouTube video on Tim Holtz Configuration Basics But the truth is, we dont always have to buy Tim Holtz Configuration Boxes... Let's be friendly to our Mother Earth and use recycled gift boxes! They work just as well! (: There are just two simple steps to creating your own configuration box! Image credits to Squidoo.com, Image Source: Squidoo.com First steps in preparing the configuration box: Most importantly, there must be a general layout, i.e. how we want the removable inner boxes to be places and an overall idea on what to place in each box. For instance, if we planned to put a miniature Christmas Tree in one of the sections, there must be ample spaces! Image Source: Squidoo.com Filling a section: ALL IN THE NAME OF YOUR CREATIVITY. Fit in pre-cut background paperstock (acid-free paper for keepers' sake), there's no general guidelines for the paper weight, therefore whatever pleases you! For the distressed vintage look in the photo, use Tim Holtz Paper Distresser to distress the edges of the pre-cut background paperstock. And finally, some images of configuration boxes to inspire you! I'll be starting on a new operation. You guessed it! It's an inspiration board. What exactly is an inspiration board? From ehow.com "An inspiration board is just like the collages you did as a child, but with a grown-up twist". But I say, inspiration boards should continually be work-in-progress with or without the "grown-up twist". There are zero restrictions and no boundaries whatsoever in styling your own inspiration boards. Izzac Mizrahi "My inspiration board is always changing and yours should be too (I encourage you to keep one at home too, you’ll be happy in 20 years you saved all those precious little scraps)" For starters, you may want to consider the easy "Build a board" online tool by StyleMePretty.com. The tool offers basic layouts, simply select the thumbnail, change the background colour to your liking and move the elements around. Image Source: Elizabeth Demos Very simple, "clean" and dainty touch on the inspiration board! Image Source: Seleta Hayes Howard from Simply Seleta Use of brads and tags, random organisation of the photos, nevertheless pretty! Image Source: Debbie Powell Primarily patterns, pictures and photos, whatever that inspires you! Image Source: EsteMag.com Uses cut-outs from magazines, using neutral/ cool tones or shades. Check out your favourites using the colour palettes! It's a very good idea to include colour shades and undertones in the inspiration board, it aids in colour selection and matching particularly for scrapbooking! While we have general ideas on what colours go together, it is always handy to have a colour palette to explore other colours to play around with! Image Source: Gwendolyn Mason and Earnest Merritt of Dear Hancock Gwendolyn "My inspiration board is constantly changing and growing, but some of the mainstays are my painting and illustration heroes: David Hockney, Mary Blair, and Feodor Rojankovsky. Also pictured are the witty contemporary sculptors Rachel Harrison and Isa Genzken. All of the cards that Earnest and I used to leave for each other at our Cal Art’s studios (where our romance for paper correspondence began) are permanent fixtures on my inspiration board.:" Image Source: Design Sponge It included the teeny weeny details of stamps and labels. Very handy to have "pockets" to house tags, etc! Image Source: Vera Mao (Naked Glory)
Vera is a local fashion blogger who blogs on fashion "for serious fashion enthusiasts", which explains the overall "runway" themed inspiration board she has created. Chipboard is by far the best material to use for inspiration boards, not only does it give a distressed touch and texture, push tacks can also be used to "secure/ remove" the pictures and photos with ease. Added dimension and texture with the clever use of wooden pegs and string! |
